The First Brick
Do It Afraid
For the past year and some, I’ve had this Substack just sitting here…empty.
Every week I’d tell myself, “I’ll write something tomorrow” or “I’ll just do it tomorrow”, but in reality fear and doubt kept me from hitting publish.
That ends today.
This is the first brick of something I want to build from the ground up.
Who I Am
My name is Pete, and I’m building my life in public. I’m a full-time line cook, training for a marathon on the road to completing a Ironman 70.3 — hopefully in the next year or so.
I’m also building a meal prep business called Kaizen Fuel Kitchen from scratch — the idea started in my small kitchen and now I’m working to grow it into something much bigger.
With that I’m practicing my faith daily, trying to live with discipline, endurance, and purpose.
Why I’m writing
I don’t have it all figured out — I don’t know exactly how to go by this, but what I do know is that I’m going to figure it out.
I feel like I’m at the very beginning of everything and that’s exactly why I’m starting this newsletter.
I want to document the process —
building a business from nothing as a line cook
training from overweight and out of shape → to a fit endurance athlete (and maybe even a Ironman one day)
practicing faith and discipline when life feels overwhelming
balancing it all while working full time
I don’t want to pretend to be perfect. I want this to be real, share what I learn, and stack days one day at a time.
What You Should Expect
Every week or so, I’ll share updates across three main areas:
Train → my journey through running, lifting, and soon ironman 70.3 prep
Cook → what I’m building with KFK (Kaizen Fuel Kitchen) + recipes + more
Build → lessons from growing in faith, business, and in life
This is the beginning.
I’m not waiting for the perfect moment anymore. I’m laying the first brick — and I’m doing it afraid.
Thanks for reading.
Let’s build.
- Pete
